AT a press conference held in Limerick on Tuesday January 27, Brian O'Driscoll was renamed as the captain for the Irish senior rugby squad. An announcement that seemed to surprise as many spoke of a change at the helm in favour of either Paul O'Connell or Ronan O'Gara.
Brian noted his delight at the reappointment and was keen to play some rugby and regain form for the national side and hopefully continue the current run of form that all four provincial sides are experiencing.
Following the press briefing with O'Driscoll, Paul O'Connell spoke to the media and this is what he said about missing out and his thoughts on the Six Nations Championship ahead.
In other news from the world of rugby, unconfirmed reports that Munster's Paul Warwick was bound for a three season spell at London Irish were dispelled when club PRO Pat Geraghty confirmed with the Post Sport blog that Warwick was staying here at the club for a further two seasons.
In ERC news, should both Munster and Leinster win their respective quarter finals of the Heieneken cup they will meet in the semi finals at a neutral Irish venue. That venue is to be decided should the premutations prevail and suitable applications be made to sporting bodies with suitable stadia.
